Project Good Launches with a Positive Vision
While we are not in the business of getting people to buy more stuff, we realize that everyone needs new stuff from time to time (gifts, clothes, etc.). We are excited to share with you the launch of Project Good, an initiative to build a trusted marketplace filled with products from around the world, each positively impacting the producer's community, environment and their unique sense of self.
According to Courtney Katz of the Project Good team, "Project Good is a global initiative that makes it easier to make better choices when shopping; to align your personal with your purchasing decisions. It engages buyers and sellers in socially conscious commerce, and provides them with confidence and trust in both their purchasing experience and the impact it has on people and our planet. Our community of Trust Providers, which are trade associations, certifying organizations, and mission driven organizations that verify the practices of sellers, make this possible. Together, we give you the power to make good decisions by providing information and options."
Once John Mackey of Whole Foods Market spoke about his vision of an "information label" on foods, which could be accessed via computer kiosk in the stores, to provide the consumer with information about the product. The kiosk might provide a link to the farm or processing facility where the food was made or grown, information about the owner of the company that made the product, etc. While it might be cumbersome to implement, the key is transparency and disclosure. To the extent that Project Good discloses information about the products it sells, where they are made, who made them, and who certifies them, it's going to be a wildly useful tool for conscious consumers.
